Now in most countries…probably… children are home in vacation and if the tree isn’t up as yet, they want it up.
This lovely DIY is nice to get everyone involved. You can even start family traditions by either everyone making their own or you can make a bunch and hand out to neighbours. You can even have them as gift tags.
I got them from this website : http://ukkonooa.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/ihanaa-valkoista-taikinaa.html
and these are the English instructions.
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 3/4 cups water
- Mix baking soda and cornstarch in a pot. Add water and mix until smooth. The mixture is very runny at this point. Place the pot on a stove over medium heat, stir constantly. The mixture will start thickening soon. When it’s turned into dough, cover it with damp paper towel or fabric. Let it cool.
- Knead the cooled dough until it’s smooth. Roll it out and cut out shapes using cookie cutters. Use a plastic drinking straw to make holes for strings.
- You can let the ornaments air dry (over night) or bake them in the oven. To bake them, preheat oven to 210/100 degrees. Bake for approximately 30 min to 1 hour. Turn the ornaments over a couple of times during the baking.
- If you like, you can paint the ready ornaments, draw on them, stamp or whatever you come up with.
I really like this because you can do so many different Christmassy shapes and have a lot to choose from.
